Your Guide to St. Patrick's Day

Updated: Mar 17

We celebrate St. Patrick’s Day each year to mark the traditional death date of St. Patrick, the foremost patron saint of Ireland. Let me just say, I hope there’s a party this big to celebrate my death. With that, let’s take a look at where you can pay your respects to a great man, with an even better holiday named for him:

Kildare Irish American Pub

Being the only business in Marquette County with “Irish” right in its name, you know Kildare Irish American Pub has a spread ready. For the day of festivities, the pub will be opening early, right at noon and staying open until 9 p.m. In addition to the full menu, Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner will be available on special for $15. Irish Coffees are on special all day, and you’ll also find Guinness and Smithwick’s Irish Red Ale on tap and ready to go - maybe you’ll forget you’re in Marquette after all.

Note: To ensure the best service for in-person dining, Kildare says they will not be accepting take-out orders on St. Patrick’s Day.

Stucko's Pub and Grill

In a Facebook post, Stucko's says St. Patrick's Day is their "most favorite day of the year," and apparently, they aren't afraid to show it! The Pub and Grill will be open for take-out and indoor dining. HOWEVER, the patio will also be open for drinks while you wait for your table inside! If there is a wait, there will also be a time limit at indoor tables - that way, everyone gets a chance to eat! Here's the Irish fare you can get your hands on:

Hot Irish Mess Poutine - French fries topped with corned beef, fried white cheddar cheese curds and sauerkraut, drizzled with thousand island and comes with a side of gravy. Half Order - $7 Full Order - $12

Reuben Nachos - Tortilla chips, Monterey Jack cheese, sauerkraut, corned beef and a drizzle of thousand island on top. $13

Reuben - Thin sliced corn beef, melted swiss cheese, sauerkraut and thousand island on grilled marble rye. Served with fries. $12

Corned Beef Dinner - Slow cooked corned beef with baby carrots, cabbage and red potatoes. They've been serving this for 15 years running! $13

Fish and Chips - Three pieces of Atlantic Cod dipped in the house beer batter, made with Guinness and Fried. Served with fries and homemade coleslaw. $14

Breakers Roadhouse

The fun continues over at the sister bar to Stucko's! Breakers boasts a pretty extensive list of Irish Whiskeys, nine of them to be exact.

They are asking you to broaden your horizons and try one or two new ones this year. To sweeten the deal, they're knocking $1 off each and every one of them!

Vango's Pizza and Cocktail Lounge

Vango's will have a traditional Irish dinner and staple among St. Patrick's Day celebrations - Corned beef, cabbage, and red potatoes. It's available for dine in and parking lot pick up. You can all ahead for reservations, or to preorder! They will also have green beer on tap and ready to be served for dine-in, or in growlers for take-out!

906 Sports Bar and Grill

The 906 Sports Bar & Grill has dedicated this week’s Wildcat Burger - their weekly burger special - to the holiday. It’s got two ¼ pound patties, topped with Swiss, smoked corned beef, coleslaw and 1000 Island Dressing. It would just feel right to have it on Wednesday, but you can get this bad boy all week long in case your festivities aren’t ending anytime soon.

Lake Superior Smokehouse Brewpub

LSSB is giving a local twist to some Irish classics. The staff there will be whipping up the Smokehouse Reuben, featuring 4 oz. of smoked corned beef, served on grilled marble rye with sauerkraut, Swiss, house made 1000 Island and your choice of a side for $12.50.

Smoked Corned Beef and Cabbage is also on special - get a half order (6 oz) of smoked corned beef and cabbage with two sides for $18.00, or upgrade to a full order for $26.. I think you know what to do.

Midtown Bakery & Cafe

Back with another grab-n-go option (they've been popular over the last year!), Midtown Bakery and Cafe has a St. Patrick's Day Dinner for Two ready to go. It's got 8 oz. Corned Beef, red skin potatoes and cabbage. Get it all for $10!

These are pre-packaged and ready to go home and get warmed up it right in the microwave.

Jerzi's 41 Bar and Grill

If you want to see a sneak peak of the Corned Beef they are cooking up at Jerzi's, then you've GOT to check out this video they posted on Facebook. They'll be serving that up in Corned Beef Dinners and Reuben sandwiches. By the way, Jerzi's also says that all of the products used in both St. Patrick's Day specials are being prepared using products made right here in Michigan. Pretty awesome.

Jasper Ridge Brewery & Restaurant

Get Corned Beef and Cabbage, served with potatoes and carrots for $12! Available from 3-9 p.m... but you can get craft beer all day at Jasper Ridge!

The Corned Beef special is available for both dine in and carry out.

Third Street Bagel

Guess who is coming through with a trio of specials perfect for St. Patrick’s Day? Check it out:

Shamrock Shakes! I know you can get them at one of those chain restaurants, but why not get a local one instead? This one comes with Andes Mint Candy too - take that, golden arches!

The Reuben is a staple sandwich this time of year, and they are putting one on a bagel! That means it’s acceptable for breakfast, right?

Third Street Bagel is also offering Guinness Beer Cheese Soup - it’s St. Patrick’s Day, and we approve of finding creative ways to incorporate as much Guinness as possible into the celebration.

MQT Nutrition

While we’re talking about avoiding big box chain restaurants - here’s another way to do it. MQT Nutrition is serving up their own version of the Shamrock Shake! They say it’s the cool, creamy and lean version of the fast-food kind. Plus, it doesn’t have to count towards the rest of your “Cheat Day”. To recap: Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, support local business, stay healthy.. a win-win-win.
